In 1985, the Faculty of Theology of the University of Geneva invited John Zizioulas as a visiting professor during the second semester of the academic year 1985-6. The course he taught was Pneumatology from an Orthodox point of view, three hours a week. According to these traditions, he analyzed the teaching of the Orthodox Church on the Holy Spirit with reference firstly to patristic theology, and then to the newer Orthodox theology. In the second part of the lectures, he developed the systematic side of the subject, and especially the problems created in theology by the issue of the Filioque, as well as the consequences of Pneumatology for Christology and ecclesiology.
