The Orthodox Church of Georgia is set to honor the legacy of the late Metropolitan of Pergamon, John D. Zizioulas, with an ecumenical online event marking one year since his passing.
The event, scheduled for February 2 from 18:30 to 20:00 Asia/Tbilisi time, aims to celebrate the significant contributions of Metropolitan John to theological discourse.
A distinguished panel of theologians will engage in discussions about the late Metropolitan's life, his theological achievements, and their personal reflections in an atmosphere described as friendly, informal, and free-flowing.
Among the highlights of the event will be a special video message from Archbishop Rowan Williams dedicated to the memory of Metropolitan Zizioulas.
Participants in the tribute include notable figures such as Professor Tamar Grdzelidze from Tbilisi, Professor John Milbank from Great Britain, Professor Cyril Hovorun from Los Angeles, Professor Giorgi Khuroshvili from Tbilisi, Professor Vyacheslav Rubsky from Odesa, Ukraine, and Professor Ilya Jinjolava from Constantinople.
The meeting is expected to draw professors, university lecturers, clergy, and laity from the Orthodox Church of Georgia, as well as members of the Orthodox Church in the United States and various European cities.
This unique gathering not only pays homage to Metropolitan Zizioulas’s enduring legacy but also fosters dialogue and exchange among the global Orthodox community and beyond.
