Annual "Ioannis Zizioulas" Lecture Announced by the Department of Theology at NKUA

The Department of Theology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA)  has announced the upcoming annual “Ioannis Zizioulas” Lecture, which will take place on  Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 6:00 PM  in the  Audiovisual Media Hall of the Faculty of Theology in Athens.

This marks the  second consecutive year  of the lecture series, which honors the intellectual and theological legacy of the late  Metropolitan Ioannis Zizioulas of Pergamon, an esteemed graduate and doctorate holder of the  Theological School of Athens. The series aims to foster dialogue between  historical and systematic theology  and contemporary  scientific and philosophical discourse.

Distinguished Speaker and Lecture Theme

This year’s speaker will be  Fr. Thomas Joseph White, OPRector Magnificus of the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome. His lecture, titled:

“Relational Ontology in Christian Theology: The Trinity, Human Nature, and the Mystery of Christ – Reflections on a Theme in Thomas Aquinas with a View to Catholic-Orthodox Relations”

will explore  relational ontology  in the framework of  Christian theology, focusing on the  Holy Trinity, human nature, and the mystery of Christ, drawing from  Thomas Aquinas’ thought  and its implications for  Catholic-Orthodox relations.

The lecture will be delivered in  English, with a  brief summary in Greek, followed by a discussion session.

About the Speaker

Fr. Thomas Joseph White, OP  is a  Dominican priest, professor, and the Rector Magnificus of the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome (Angelicum). He is widely recognized for his  contributions to Thomistic theology, systematic theology, and  Catholic-Orthodox dialogue.

This event, now in its  second consecutive year, continues to provide an  intellectually enriching experience, engaging theologians, scholars, and students in a thought-provoking discussion on one of the most profound topics in Christian theology.
